Your Questions About Varicose Veins

Lisa asks…

Why is it recommended that people with varicose veins don’t use foot spas?

Rene Heasman answers:

The heat may aggravate the pooling or stagnation of the blood in the dilated veins. This could make the aching worse. There may also be concern that the prominent veins are vulnerable to damage

Ruth asks…

Varicose Veins – Hot water or cold water?

If someone has Varicose Veins, shou he/she shower in hot water or cold water. which one is healthier?

Rene Heasman answers:

I don’t think it matters. But theoretically, cold water is better, because it causes your surface blood vessels to constrict and blood to pool around your core. Hot water causes your surface blood vessels to expand, so more blood travels through them and they become thicker and more noticeable. Spider veins are also reduced in appearance this way–they are caused by repeated flushing of your skin (that is, repeated dilations of blood vessels at the surface). But this only works for the duration of the shower. You’d be better off taking only cold showers, and using the money you save from the heating costs to pay to get your varicose veins and/or spider veins removed.

James asks…

what’s best way to get rid of varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

Depends on how bad they are. I had some little spider
veins, (you could see them but they weren’t raised ),
I had them zapped with a laser and they were less noticeable
or disappeared completely. Go to a doctor or laser center
for a consultation.

Nancy asks…

How do you treat Varicose Veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

Saline doesnt work as well as glycerin and sotrdecol injections. Now if you have varicosities you may have an ambulotry phlebectomy. Find a board certified dermatologist who specializes and has expeirence in this feild

Laura asks…

does laser technology work on varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

In the hands of an experienced doctor, endovenous (inside the vein) laser treatment of varicose veins is very effective.

External treatment may improve appearance, but for how long???
