Susan asks…
have u heard/used the varicose vein treatment called vnus – the closure?
i was told there is only 7 or 9 places in the country that does this procedure. my hubby is 34 yrs old and the doc said he has legs of a 60 yr old. they want to do 8 surgerys whereas most ppl have like 3 or 4 done. he did have a clot bout 3 yrs ago from 1 of those veins. he’s NEVER been on anistesia and he has sleep aptnea (sp?). the doc said his vein has pretty much made a duplicate of theirselves. the vein in the back calve has branches coming off and they are leaking, this is in both legs. this procedure is where they insert a catheter into the vein, it delivers radiofrequency, remove the cath and the vein colapes causing the blood to reroute to healthy veins. just 2 veins to be worked on cost over 16,000.00.
my concerns are that this procedure seems to be kinda new and i can’t find much info or results on the web.
have u had this done or know of anyone who has? what was the experience, good and bad?
it’s scary cuz he’s never been put 2 sleep, has sleep probs and had a clot b4..

Rene Heasman answers:
I had the vnus closure done 3 days ago where I live in Maryland. It lasted only 30 minutes and was over fast. They put iodine all over my leg and then sprayed a numbing spray on it before they numbed it with a needle. They made a few small incisions (very small) and closed the leaky vein. I go back in two weeks for a ambulatory phlebectomy where they remove the old veins. That procedure is also very fast and should be painless. It is covered under most insurance policies because it is considered medical.

Richard asks…
Varicose/Spider veins and EVLT or Sclerotherapy.?
I have some minor varicose veins, but they are emerging quickly. To find out how much the more recent treatments cost yo must have a consultation (and most likely pay for a consultation too). I was just wondering what kind of ball park amount I can estimate for the removal of veins. Thanks a lot:)

Rene Heasman answers:
I dunno but I wish I didn’t have varicose veins either and i’m only 25. My doctor doesn’t advise removing them because she said you’re kinda screwed if you need emergency surgery and need the vein for use in another part of your body.

Spider veins occur primarily on the legs and face. They do not normally need to be treated as, unlike the varicose veins they resemble, they do not come with the same health concerns. However, treatment is often sought for cosmetic reasons. Whether your reasons for seeking to get rid of them, there are more options today for spider vein treatment.
Spider veins, as in the case of varicose veins, occur when veins close to the skin are enlarged. They tend to be either red or blue and many times look like spider webs in the way they spread out over the skin. Treatment is not necessary if they are not painful and there are no other symptoms. They can be indicative of circulation issues which may need to be watched.
Often, there is a hereditary component to spider veins. Variations in hormones, pregnancy and aging are also situations when they tend to crop up more often. Other things that appear to play a role in spider vein development are obesity, sun exposure and either sitting or standing over time.
There may be nothing you can do to keep spider veins from occurring, especially if they are hereditary. However, there are some ways to help. Exercising can keep your circulation moving properly especially in the legs, which can also be strengthened. Weight loss is also important and the exercise can help there as well. Stay out of the sun and always were sunscreen, on your face especially. As much as possible, try to avoid constricting blood flow, particularly to the legs. Avoid wearing constricting clothing and crossing your legs while sitting. If you must sit and stand for a long time, more around and stretch from time to time. Limit the amount of salt you eat and increase the amount of fiber.
The typical treatment for spider veins is sclerotherapy. In this treatment, a doctor will inject the vein with a solution that makes it swell and seal shut. The vein, without blood flow, turns into scar tissue and fades after a few weeks. If done properly, an improvement of anywhere between fifty and ninety percent can be achieved. This procedure can be done in the office with no anesthesia necessary.
Laser treatments have also been achieving good results on spider veins. In many cases, they will fade and disappear over time. Although the heat during the treatment can be somewhat painful, there is no downtime experienced. As with sclerotherapy, the patient can resume his or her normal activity immediately. If spider veins are larger than 3 mm, however, this is not the treatment of choice.
Often, the treatment of choice is now laser-assisted sclerotherapy which uses both the sclerotherapy and the laser technology in one treatment. The laser is pointed at the places where the injections were made in an effort to speed up the rate of healing. This is quickly becoming the treatment of choice.
You do not have to seek treatment if your spider veins are not resulting in pain or other symptoms. But many view them as unsightly and embarrassing. This is partly true because, while they can happen in young people as well, they carry the stigma of being a result of aging. Whatever your reason for seeking spider vein treatment, there are more advanced options than ever before.
Are you plagued by unsightly veins? You can get Spider Vein Treatment and Spider Vein Removal and feel good about the way you look again! Learn how easy and affordable this process is, right now!

Spider Vein Treatment: What Are They?
Do you know what a spider vein is? Have you tried looking at your legs? Those red lines are seem to be branching in different directions are called spider veins. They can give you a feeling of uncomfortability and leg numbness. It may also lead to worsening skin conditions such as dermatitis or skin ulcers.
Is there any way to stop it? Yes, they are. In fact, there are multiple options when it comes to spider vein treatment. They range from simple to complex. This way, you can choose which one will suit your needs and even your budget.
The Good Thing about Stockings
An elastic support hose will not only serve as your good concealer of spider veins but they can also compress them. This will make your legs feel a lot better. The pressure derived from the stockings will stop swelling and aching of the legs.
Move Your Body
Spider veins can show up even if you are not basically doing anything, such as when you are sitting. No wonder they affect men and women who are trapped in their workstations for almost the entire day. Your best defense is to give yourself a break. Loosen up. Chat with your officemate seated a few rows from you. Get that cup of coffee in another room. After office hours, walk around shopping malls or parks for 30 minutes.
Think of Right Food
Before you even succumb to spider vein treatment, your veins should be kept healthy all the time. One way of doing that is to incorporate foods that are loaded with vitamins such as fruits and vegetables. They can also help maintain your ideal weight. When you are obese, you are adding extra pressure in your veins, which may lead to the development of spider veins.
The Power of Creams
There are also beauty and treatment creams that you can apply on your affected area. This can be in your legs or even in your face. They contain special formulation, which includes vitamins K and E, which are highly effective in improving blood circulation.
Medical Surgery
If you think that all the above suggestions will no longer work because of the severity of the condition, your next option will be to undergo surgery. It may include surgical vein stripping or laser surgery. It may also mean performing invasive procedures with the use of catheters.
Indeed, there will always be a spider vein treatment that you can fend for yourself. Nevertheless, if what you choose is putting yourself on the line, then forego with it. Nothing will be far serious that waking up one morning, suffering from other complications.
