Your Questions About Cause Of Varicose Veins

Sharon asks…

NuvaRing side effect: Varicose Veins?

I just went on a nuvaring side effects website. of course blood clots are listed. it said sharp pains on the back of lower leg (calf) and i remember having that several times at work it says it is a possible blood clot. I was wondering if that is what could of caused a varicose vein that i recently got on my lower leg in the front on my shin? i know varicose veins are caused by blood clots. am i in danger, is it possible that it is the nuva ring causing this? any input would be appreciated, thank you for your help

Rene Heasman answers:

Birth control pills have that side affect too. I think I’ve read on the actual leaflet from my pill that if you smoke, have heart disease, or obesity, then that increases the risk of the hormones giving you blood clots. It would probably be a small percentage of people that it affects and therefore they are required to put a warning on it. If you are concerned about the risks, talk to your doctor.

Richard asks…

what are the dangers of using nicotine gums for a long period of time?

I read the worst was gum disease,il look it up again nurseawful…..

Rene Heasman answers:

I smoked for 28 years and try ed to stop for 27. It was the gum that gave me the power to stop. I used it for about 5 years cos i was so adicted to the weed. I have now given up the gum, when i decided to quit the gum it was easy. Non smoker now 13+ years. Stick with the gum mate, and kick the weed. …..good luck with it……….dont worry about the gum, use patches if u like, its not as bad as the smokes,

Lizzie asks…

Why do I have varicose veins?

I am 25 years old, I’m skinny and I never been pregnant. I am active and keep a healthy diet. I work out an hour a day plus I take my dog on 3-4 walks a day. I don’t keep my legs crossed and I wear compressed socks.

I started getting varicose veins when I was 14. I’ve always been skinny and so is my family. Varicose veins do not run in my family. My family is pretty healthy. Both sets of grandparents are still alive and disease free. My veins have never hurt but I started getting bad purple, rope like veins that are extremely obvious and unattractive. The older I get, the more I get.

I have talked to a vein specialist and I’ve been told my varicose veins are not threatening and they are not affecting my health at all. I do not feel any pain but I did get a laser treatment for my veins when I was 23. They told me my insurance was going to cover it in full, so I got it done. However, it was just a cosmetic procedure and they told me my legs will look a lot better, because I have these veins all over my legs and they look hideous. People comment on them all the time, and I don’t wear shorts or skirts in the summer. I got the surgery and was told my legs will look stunning after a couple weeks. But the surgery did not work and I am getting more and more veins popping up. My legs are almost covered in these veins and they are getting worse. Not only did the surgery not work, but my insurance didn’t cover it but I was told they would cover it in full. I later got billed for $4,000. I have since gone back to the doctor and my legs now look like a 90 year old woman’s legs. All the doctor could say is that I have no health risks and they don’t wanna do the surgery again since it never worked the first time. I was told that is rare for it to not work and the doctor told me I’m a rare case. I look online for laser vein surgery and it apparently works for everyone. I don’t know what to do now. I understand I’m not in a health risk but I don’t want my legs to look this way anymore. I can’t even wear a dress, even with nylons. Everyone can see blue and purple veins through nylons. If people ever see my legs, they are so fascinated by how veiny I am. People comment how it looks sick and it must be painful for me, but it’s not. If I wanna scare a little kid, I just show my legs. How can I get normal looking legs and why am I going through this since none of the causes of varicose veins are affecting me at all?

Rene Heasman answers:

Plastic surgery?

I’m sorry hun i have bad veins too. :(

Mandy asks…

vericose veins ??!! at 17?

im 17, and i hav these really visible veins at the back of my legs, its kind of uncomfortable wen i walk, and as i play alot of sport it really annoys me?! are they varicose veins? what causes varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

Genetics & weak veins.
Suggest you talk to your parents to see a specialist for treatment. Sometimes support stockings help, but they are so incredibly tight and uncomfortable. Keeping legs elevated (not sitting at a desk all day), no crossing at ankles or knees when sitting. Exercising will help the muscles around the veins to be healthier & stronger, but sports where you are getting bumped, stressfull jumping may in fact contribute to the vericose problems. Low blood pressure may also be a factor. This is why you need to talk to a specialist so that you keep it from getting worse. Pregnancies will make the vericose get very bad, as the extra pressure on the veins to pump the blood from the feet area.

Good luck! I’ve had vericose from standing at a cash register at 18 yrs old. I’ve had them for 30 yrs now, and the continue to hurt, itch, sting once in a while. Do good maintenance now while you’ve caught it in the early phase.

Susan asks…

What method of contraception is best for someone who is prone to varicose veins?

My boyfriend and I would really like to stop using condoms but I have been on the pill before and I am absolutely positive that this is what caused my varicose veins, despite doctors telling me that this is unlikely (I was only 18, there was no history of varicose veins in my family and it started at exactly that time so I am quite sure that the pill would have prompted it at least). I tried different types of pill, including the progestogen only pill but still they got worse. I have since had the veins operated on but I really want to avoid going through all that again so I have not been on the pill since. I’m sure the contraceptive injection would have the same effect as it uses the same hormones as the pill, so I’m guessing the only non-hormonal method I can use would be barrier method such as condoms? Anyone know? Help!

Rene Heasman answers:

Firstly I’m surprised that a lady has said only condoms or the pill will do, there are several other methods that you can try.

It is true that that the pill contains hormones such as oestrogen, but these can affect the blood, this is why doctors say you should not stay on them for too long as there is a slight risk of thrombosis, especially if you smoke also.

You could try other barrier methods, such as the cap or diaphragm, as well as female condoms.

The coil or IUD is also very widely used, convenient, doesn’t interfere with sex and can be left in place for years.

If you are in any doubt, why don’t you visit your local family planning clinic?

Your Questions About Varicose Veins Treatment Cost

Mark asks…

varicose and spider vein treatment cost?

Does anybody knows cost of treatment approximate’”from-to”?Both legs. And could you suggest best places to do this? What about insurance coverage?

Rene Heasman answers:

Get your varicose veins treatment in India.Varicose veins Surgery is very cheap in India.(whether its phlebotomy , sclerotherapy, vein stripping, or by the latest elves laser and other types of surgery also)There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges varicose veins surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as all types of surgery is not covered by insurance.

They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your varicose veins surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My aunt got her varicose veins surgery by elves laser in India through the forerunners healthcare and is very happy with the cosmetic results as veins are not visible now.She just paid 50%of the amount including her airfare of what she was quoted in USA

hope this helps

Susan asks…

have u heard/used the varicose vein treatment called vnus – the closure?

i was told there is only 7 or 9 places in the country that does this procedure. my hubby is 34 yrs old and the doc said he has legs of a 60 yr old. they want to do 8 surgerys whereas most ppl have like 3 or 4 done. he did have a clot bout 3 yrs ago from 1 of those veins. he’s NEVER been on anistesia and he has sleep aptnea (sp?). the doc said his vein has pretty much made a duplicate of theirselves. the vein in the back calve has branches coming off and they are leaking, this is in both legs. this procedure is where they insert a catheter into the vein, it delivers radiofrequency, remove the cath and the vein colapes causing the blood to reroute to healthy veins. just 2 veins to be worked on cost over 16,000.00.
my concerns are that this procedure seems to be kinda new and i can’t find much info or results on the web.
have u had this done or know of anyone who has? what was the experience, good and bad?
it’s scary cuz he’s never been put 2 sleep, has sleep probs and had a clot b4..

Rene Heasman answers:

I had the vnus closure done 3 days ago where I live in Maryland. It lasted only 30 minutes and was over fast. They put iodine all over my leg and then sprayed a numbing spray on it before they numbed it with a needle. They made a few small incisions (very small) and closed the leaky vein. I go back in two weeks for a ambulatory phlebectomy where they remove the old veins. That procedure is also very fast and should be painless. It is covered under most insurance policies because it is considered medical.

Richard asks…

Varicose/Spider veins and EVLT or Sclerotherapy.?

I have some minor varicose veins, but they are emerging quickly. To find out how much the more recent treatments cost yo must have a consultation (and most likely pay for a consultation too). I was just wondering what kind of ball park amount I can estimate for the removal of veins. Thanks a lot:)

Rene Heasman answers:

I dunno but I wish I didn’t have varicose veins either and i’m only 25. My doctor doesn’t advise removing them because she said you’re kinda screwed if you need emergency surgery and need the vein for use in another part of your body.

Your Questions About Varicose Veins Prevention

Richard asks…

Prevention and care of varicose veins on legs?

I’m only 22 but am already developing them, both me and my husband think they are ugly. What can I do to prevent and cover them up effectively and inexpensively?

Rene Heasman answers:

Varicose veins are a hereditary issue, you can minimize the speed with which they develop by wearing compression stockings (you get these from a doctor, you have to be fitted for them and taught how to apply them). If they become painful, there are new procedures that can now be done surgically to remove them, but they don’t generally do it just for cosmetic purposes. You would need to see a vascular surgeon to explore this option. Avoid sitting or standing for long periods, in other words change your position at least hourly, and when you can, lay down with your feet elevated.

Michael asks…

Question about varicose veins?

I just noticed what looks like the start of varicose veins behind one of my knees, so I looked up prevention online only to find out that the only recommendation is to avoid prolonged periods of standing and remain seated as much as possible. Because of this, I think this unwanted appearance of vein is due to a job I just started a couple months ago—which requires me to stand for my entire shift omitting a 15 min break. How is sitting down more beneficial to my health than being up and active? Humans are supposed to be mobile! It seems to me that sitting would make the problem worse due to stagnation of the blood. What are some more reasonable prevention methods for varicose veins, or even natural remedies (I’m not doing surgery so don’t even suggest it)? I’m a vegetarian, so if there are any dietary suggestions, no meat. Should I wear a particular sort of shoe or insert in my shoe? I’m already wearing heel cushions since I just have trendy shoes, not athletic ones (though I plan to buy some tennis shoes when I have spare money). I do yoga and pilates, so is there any pose or exercise I should add to my routine?
Much better recommendations than the websites I’ve looked at. I work at a cash register, so sometimes moving around can be difficult, but I can figure some sort of inconspicuous exercises to do when business is slow.

Rene Heasman answers:

I’ve heard that panty hoes are supposed to be beneficial in prevention. Cause of varicose veins is valve incompetency in the vein so blood gets backed up dilating the vessel and making it more visible… The reason standing for long periods is hard on them is because it increases pressure in your legs. Adding something like panty hoes will apply external pressure to help counter act some of the external pressure ;) you may also be interested in vitamin A,C,E and mineral selenium for antioxidant help. C will also help in collagen repair and maybe some Cu2+ which is supposed to add more elasticity to arteries and veins. Oh and moving around more will help if you are just standing in one place…. Moving cause muscles to contract that aid in the evacuation of blood from the extremities reducing pooling and thereby vein pressure! Hope that helps some!

Mandy asks…

I think I’m getting VARICOSE VEINS!!! but im ONLY 15!! HELP PLEASE?

the veins near my knee and thigh have been extreamly close to the surface lately and today I noticed that a vein at the back of my knee has poppped out!
I am only 15 and I DONT WANT VARICOSE VEINS!!

is there any prevention?
what should I do?
:(
Also what are the causes?

Rene Heasman answers:

See your health care provider as soon as possible (vascular surgeon). There are several reasons for leg swelling. One of the most common is varicose veins, in which damage to valves in the large veins of the legs hinders the return of blood to the heart. Blood plasma, which is mostly water, pools in nearby tissue, causing swelling of the legs and feet. Excess dietary salt, sitting or standing for long periods, and hot weather can aggravate the swelling. Exercise such as walking or cycling helps. So does resting with your legs elevated. Water retention can also be caused by more serious problems, such as heart, liver, and kidney disorders. A medical checkup to rule those out would be wise. Of course, this may not be your problem. See a doctor. I hope this helps you. And good luck.

Mark asks…

lotions to prevent stretch marks and help with some old ones ?

help i already have stretch marks from 2 previous pregnancies and planning for a 3rd i really want to use something this time well i got pg at young age fam stopped talking 2 me now i get all my here as you can see anywayz also need lotions to prevent like when the skin gets dark like spots because of pg or etc and something 4 celulite help or prevention and last 4 varicose veins sorry maybe 2 much but please ill appreciated thanks

Rene Heasman answers:

A lotion with Coca Butter can help with stretch marks.

Over-the-counter stretch mark treatments are available. Ask your doctor to recommend one. And, if you are pregnant, discuss your concern with your doctor at the beginning of your pregnancy, before stretch marks develop, so that preventive treatment can be started.

For varicose veins, at the drug store you can find compression stockings.

Varicose veins may be prevented to some extent by:

Wearing compression stockings. They improve circulation and are a mainstay of treatment for varicose veins that are causing symptoms.
Regularly elevating the legs. Elevating your legs helps keep the blood from pooling in your lower legs and improves blood flow to the rest of your body.
Avoiding long periods of standing or sitting. Sitting or standing still for long periods of time puts added stress on the veins in your legs.

Linda asks…

Cramping feeling when flying?

Hi. I’ve flown a few times, and never have any problems… except for one thing. When I’m on a long haul flight, I get cramping sensations in my stomach area. I know it’s probably because of sitting down for so long. What I want to know is… Is there any way to stop this happening without walking around so much. I do walk around a little, but it’s just to the toilet and for the prevention of problems with my legs (varicose veins and other ailments). And, is it because I’m sitting down so much? or just being crammed into economy class with little legroom and things? I’m a webpage designer and I’ve been known to sit in the same place for 14 hours+

Thanks in advance.

Rene Heasman answers:

Sitting can be one cause, but the compression in the flight cabin could cause cramps that appear in your stomach. Flying can cause many different health complications. Walking around is definitely a help, but the best thing is to drink a lot of water during the flight. Flying causes dehydration and dehydration can cause spasms.

Causes And Management Of Spider Veins

Now you might ask, how were these spider veins ever get to form in my legs or face?

Swollen Venules (little veins)

The quickest way to identify if you have spider veins, is if the region all-around these veins is swollen. It the most severe cases it can result in tiredness in the legs. For some individuals the blood flow is reversed. This brings about blood to pool in the legs; which causes discoloration in the skin, which leads to varicose veins.

What causes the swelling of spider veins?

Carrying close to additional weight can put pressure on the legs and ankles can also trigger spider veins.

Large amounts of pressure in the stomach can trigger spider veins, by constricting blood flow.

Weak blood flow can be caused by constipation, bad diet, becoming physically unfit, smoking, getting on your feet all day and wearing tight clothes.

House cure and some word of mouth

Marigolds for you

They say if you rub marigold on the impacted region it will get rid of spider veins. So let’s take a closer look at this. It is a natural anti-inflammatory but for it to operate you would have a very minor case. It may work on 2% of individuals with this disorder.

Vegetable extract

The real deal is, if you love carrot and spinach juice this is just for you. Well, individuals would normally think that having this to drink is something gross. Again it may function for all over 2% of affected persons.

Vitamins

Some natural vitamins operate great for spider veins house treatment. Like vitamin K.

What to Consume

Other persons would advice a fruit diet consisting of 7-10 a day, and slowly adding in nuts, grains, seeds, raw vegetables. This can seem simpler than it sounds. Here are some items that you must try to get rid of: all condiments, alcohol, caffeine, and carbs. So that pretty much prevent all the points that we normally appreciate taking or having.

Varicose Vein Treatment Saint Louis Can Improve Circulation

Varicose vein treatment Saint Louis uses lasers to burn enlarged veins in order to help blood circulation in the legs. Enlarged veins bulge up in the skin which not only looks unattractive but also can cause blood clots in the leg. Doctors use various methods to detect varicose including visual inspection of the patient’s skin.

Medical professionals examine legs looking for swelling in the veins in the legs where this problem normally occurs. The legs are under constant strain when a person walks which is why the veins in the legs are subject to swelling. Medical professionals also examine the leg looking for ulcers and skin irritation which are signs of potential phlebitis or vein swelling that needs to be treated before the problem worsens.

Some people suffering from advanced phlebitis appear to have spider webs under their skin. Fortunately, people with this advanced form of swollen veins can seek help and have their condition treated in an outpatient clinic in one day. The reason why the veins bulge is because the blood pools and enlarges the veins in the legs.

Another sign doctors look for is discoloration around the bulging skin in the leg area along with reports of pain or sensitivity. Inflammation around the skin leads to pain or sensitivity and can be helped with ice packs placed around the swelling. Phlebitis is the medical term for inflammation which eventually affects people with this leg condition.

People develop bulging veins not only in their legs but also in their hips. This condition is easily treated because the veins in the hips are for the most part dysfunctional and can be removed without any problem resulting. People can look forward to improved circulation after successful laser surgery no matter where the varicose veins are located.

Because of the internet it is easy to find a clinic that offers laser therapy and make an appointment with a qualified doctor. Some people will need more than one treatment in order to eradicate the condition. Some insurance plans cover this laser therapy while some plans consider it a cosmetic procedure and do not pay for the procedure so it is important to check with the insurance carrier first.

Varicose vein treatment Saint Louis helps people who suffer from swollen veins in their legs by using laser surgery to help reduce swelling and improve blood circulation. Many people suffer from bulging veins but there is a treatment available that can help most people rid themselves of their pain and remove unsightly bulges from their legs. There are many laser therapy clinics that advertise on the internet so it is easy to make an appointment for a consultation with a qualified medical professional.
