Your Questions About Varicose Veins

James asks…

Would wearing leggings help with varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

If they were tight enough. Usually you are given support stockings to hold them in place but tight leggings would do about the same job. Ideally though, an operation is the only true way to remove varicose veins and they can still come back if you don’t do the follow up exercises

Michael asks…

what is the danger of having a ruptured varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

The worst thing that can happen is bleeding. Lots of bleeding. If it doesn’t stop with direct pressure, go to the ER/A&E.

Daniel asks…

what is the best way to get rid/lessen varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

It appears that the question period has expired. If you have received an answer that meets your needs, please choose one of those as a ‘best answer.’ If you haven’t received a good answer for your question, you may want to consider the following,

1) Re-post your question. Newer questions get more activity on Yahoo! Answers than old ones.
2) If you do re-post your question, consider why it wasn’t answered the first time. Could it be more specific? Could it be worded better? Were there grammatical or spelling errors? Was it in the best category?

If it doesn’t seem likely that re-posting your question will help you, then here’s a listing of my favorite ‘answer sites’. Maybe one of them will help you.

Mandy asks…

how to reduce appearance of varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

Trousers. That’ll stop them appearing. At least in public.

Laura asks…

how long needs to recover from varicose veins surgery?

Rene Heasman answers:

Varicose veins are dilated superficial veins in the lower extremities. Usually, no cause is obvious. Varicose veins are typically asymptomatic but may cause a sense of fullness, pressure, and pain or hyperesthesia in the legs. Diagnosis is by physical examination. Treatment is compression, wound care, sclerotherapy, and surgery.(Merck)
Heredity (the traits passed down to you from your parents and grandparents) plays a major role in determining whether you will get varicose veins.
Some preventive measures include exercising to strengthen the muscles that support the veins, wearing support hose (especially during pregnancy), and avoiding standing up for prolonged periods.
Surgery can remove varicose veins if they cause pain, or the appearance of them is embarrassing.
Surgical stripping usually requires at least 3 – 7 days rest, but you could need up to several weeks.
Please see the web pages for more details on Varicose veins, Varicose vein therapy and Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT).

Your Questions About Varicose Veins

David asks…

Is going up and down the stairs several times per hour harmful for Varicose Veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

In layman terms varicose veins is the penalty for verticality gainst gravity, they are common in persons who stands a lot or walks for that matter, ike in case of surgeons like me , bus conductors, watchmen, etc.
So it can be a potential for u too but its not a disease which cant be treated and its not hard and fast that u will get that.

Paul asks…

Is there anything at all to do for varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

Yes, there are a whole lot of treatment options, starting with supportive legwear, through to cutting (“avulsing”) the veins below the knee, and stripping from knee to groin.

Obviously, you would want to avoid surgery unless you were getting a lot of pain, or unwanted skin changes due to the varicosities.

Susan asks…

Anyone had evlt or varicose vein treatment?

Ok so I’m 21 and I have 2 kids and have varicose veins that are getting worse.. Have you had varicose vein treatment . What did you have and how dis it go?

Rene Heasman answers:

Varicose veins runs in my family. One of my older relatives recently underwent Endovenous Laser Therapy for treating varicose veins in her legs. It cost roughly $400+ and the procedure itself is relatively new. However, it is a less invasive treatment option compared to other kinds (like Phlebectomy). The EVLT procedure works in minor-to-moderate cases of varicose veins.

I myself have had to suffer through a variant of those bluish spider veins. I first learned to mask it (using creams like Preparation H and VeneSanar) and am currently undergoing a non-surgical treatment toward a more permanent cure.

Thomas asks…

I want to wear shorts. How do I hide varicose veins?

Rene Heasman answers:

Hi!
Varicose veins are such a pain, huh. No wonder vein and pain rhyme. LOL.
Anyways, a great thing to hide them with is a body makeup called Dermablend. They sell it online and even at JcPenney. It’s not that expensive but most of all, it WORKS! Waterproof, sweatproof. I used it while I was pregnant and had a few of those little pesky stretch marks.
If you don’t want to go that route, a heavy concelear set with powder will do but not for as long as the Dermablend.
Luckily, this summer the trend is longer shorts (thank God!) so you can always rock that look too.
Good luck and you’ll look great no matter what you chose!

best sox for varicose veins?

anyone know the best sox for someone has varicose veins.?

Rene Heasman answers:

I know my grandma has diabetes, and i dont know if it has n e thing to do with Varicose veins. But she always cuts the elastics off the top of the sock. She says so it wont cut off the circulation to her feet or legs. So id say socks without a lot of pressure around the leg or ankle.

Mark asks…

HbA1c: do we need to fast before doing this test?

In fagin’s test which is done in varicose vein do i need to empty the vein? Or is the test done without emptying the vein?

What is normal circumferance of baby’s head? and its velocity?

Rene Heasman answers:

Hb1AC would not need to be tested only when someone is fasting since this value gives an average of blood glucose control over a timeframe of weeks.

Donna asks…

Who is the right doctor for varicose veins?

Helen asks…

does witch hazel help varicose veins?!?

does witch hazel help varicose veins?! has anyone tried this and did it help at all?

Rene Heasman answers:

I have never heard of this. The only way to get rid of varicose veins is sclerotherapy or laser treatments. The problem with varicose veins is that it is hereditary, so if your mom had them, chances are you will to. You can do some things to help slow the process, such as wearing support hose, not standing for long periods, avoiding weight gain and elevate your legs when sitting. My mom had them and I am a very healthy person. I exercise, but I’m a nurse so I stand a lot. Now that I’m pregnant, it’s a little worse, but not as bad as my mom’s. The laser surgery is permanent, but pricey and you may need more than one treatment.

Sandy asks…

I think guys with puffed up varicose veins on their arms look so hot ^^?

And I’ve always wondered how come some guys have them, and others don’t? Thanks =)

Rene Heasman answers:

Yeah. I think so too.
But. Not too puffed up! Eww. Lol.
But…I dunno. Maybe it’s because they do alot of working out?
